Intel® Extreme Masters Taipei stop to boost regional Asia-Pacific Counter-Strike teams

Intel® Extreme Masters Taipei at Taipei Game Show to feature top eight Counter-Strike teams in US$50,000 competition

The global elite pro gaming tour, Intel® Extreme Masters, returns to its roots with regional tournaments. Intel Extreme Masters Taipei at Taipei Game Show is set to feature eight of the best teams from the Asia-Pacific region in an official US$50,000 Valve Regional Minor Championship. The competition, hosted at one of the world’s largest computer trade fairs, provides an international stage for local competition and a springboard to the next international Counter-Strike Major in North America. Taking place at the Taipei Game Show from January 29 to February 2 2016, the event marks the penultimate stop on Season 10 of the prestigious Intel Extreme Masters circuit.

“We are very happy to be working with Valve on a regional Counter-Strike tournament in Asia,” said Michal Blicharz, VP of Pro Gaming at ESL. “Such competitions will hopefully help grow the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive community in the Asia-Pacific region and allow the region to produce teams worthy of ones such as eSTRO, WeMade Fox or wNv, who we saw at previous Intel Extreme Masters events in the region back in seasons two to six.”

Intel Extreme Masters has previously visited the region with Counter-Strike a total of six times, including the Intel Extreme Masters Asian Championship for Counter-Strike 1.6 that took place in 2010. Events for Counter-Strike 1.6 have been hosted by the Intel Extreme Masters in Chengdu, Shanghai, Guangzhou (China), Seoul (Korea), Taipei (Taiwan) and Dubai (UAE).

After Taipei, the Intel Extreme Masters comes to its epic conclusion at the World Championship tournament, set to be played out in the legendary Spodek Arena in Katowice, Poland. World Championship attendance in 2015 was recorded at over 100,000 across the four event days with online records broken for streaming viewership. Teams taking part in this year’s competition will enjoy what is expected to be a further increase in record-breaking viewership and a platform unlike any other.

More information about all upcoming tournaments will be released on www.intelextrememasters.com.
