The Intel Extreme Masters is Australia’s first esports mega-event. Held in Sydney from 2017-2019, in 2021 IEM will be held in Melbourne, as part of the Melbourne Esports Open. The world’s best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players compete for hundreds of thousands of dollars in IEM, with IEM Melbourne 2020 marking the tour’s 79th stop globally. IEM in Australia has made headlines highlighting "the best crowd in esports" - a reflection of the passion and engagement of Australian esports fans who attend the event each year.
